With the advent of the Internet and readily available global news services, April Fools' pranks can catch and embarrass a wider audience than ever before. Danes, Finns, Icelanders, Norwegians and Swedes celebrate April Fools' Day (aprilsnar in Danish; aprillipäivä in Finnish; aprilsnarr in Norwegian; aprilskämt in Swedish). Most news media outlets will publish exactly one false story on 1 April; for newspapers this will typically be a first-page article but not the top headline. In Germany, an April Fool prank is sometimes later revealed by shouting "April, April!" at the recipient, who becomes the "April fool". In Scotland, April Fools' Day was originally called "Huntigowk Day".

On the night before April 1, sneak in to your kiddo’s room and make some changes that will surprise them in the morning. Turn the chair upside down, put underwear on the dolls… even switch sleeping siblings into each other’s beds. They’ll wake up to a silly surprise… and know they’re in for a fun and prank-filled April Fool’s Day. It’s the perfect opportunity to let your Easter Bunny have a little fun early this year.
For dinner, make meatloaf and separate it into cupcake tins, and frost the “cupcakes” with mashed potato frosting as a special “dessert for dinner.” And for dessert? Try “grilled cheese” made with slices of pound cake as the bread and gooey yellow frosting in lieu of cheese. The kids’ “juice” can be jello refrigerated in glasses, with straws embedded for an extra realistic touch. You’ll need to do some pre-planning to pull this off, but trust us, it’ll be well-worth it.

Bring in one healthy snack and one guilty pleasure treat your coworkers will love. Swap the boxes, so the healthy snack is packaged as the treat and vice versa. One good example is setting out a vegetable tray disguised as a box of donuts, and then hiding the donuts from the box in the office fridge. Change a colleague’s computer wallpaper to something ridiculous. If they have more than one monitor, you have more than one opportunity to start their day with something goofy.
For example, Google decided not to continue "its infamous April Fools’ jokes" tradition for that year. Because the pandemic was still ongoing a year later in 2021, they also decided not to do pranks that year. The practice of April Fool pranks and hoaxes is controversial. 28 December, the equivalent day in Spain and Hispanic America, is also the Christian day of celebration of the Day of the Holy Innocents. The Christian celebration is a religious holiday in its own right, but the tradition of pranks is not, though the latter is observed yearly. Pranks and jokes are usually verbal and are revealed by shouting "Bir Nisan!" (April 1st!).
Holiday Tasks That Are Secretly Depleting You
People will be honking at them on the drive all the way home. Just make sure that the driver is distracted while getting in the car so they don’t see the sign. This prank is harmless and works really well if you prepare a child or partner’s lunch to take with them for the day.

Once it’s set, add the stapler, then pour another batch of Jell-O over the top to set. This gag will definitely get a good laugh, especially if your partner is a fan of the show. Stick a plastic face with a suction cup that sticks to a window from the outside, then when a person enters the room, it looks like someone is peeking through the window. This one could be pretty scary, so don’t do it to anyone with any health issues, and be sure to leave a note on the mask identifying yourself as the friendly perpetrator. Mom, why did you frame that random photo of Steve Buscemi?
Put part of a post-it note over the tracking ball on a computer mouse — it won’t work! Or, turn up the volume as high as it can go on someone’s computer or radio before they turn it on. Block the remote signal with a piece of opaque tape. Put a couple of very small drops of food coloring on your child’s toothpaste. They won’t notice until they start brushing and their mouth turns a different color. Which country produces the most rice in the world?
Maybe even crazy enough to pull over to check underneath the hood of their car. For this prank, blow up a boatload of balloons and bunch them together using string or tape to create a balloon bouquet of sorts. Next, tape the balloons to the inside of a car window, so that your victim thinks they will fly out once they open the door.
When you go to check their work, laugh at their reaction. Swap the cereal in the boxes so they need to track down their breakfast in the correct box. Takedown some wall hangings and replace them with your child’s shoes. Open a small bag of Cheetos from the bottom and replace them with carrots before carefully taping it back up. You deserve some special treatment on your birthday, but you might not have ever indulged in totally FREE stuff before.

For those who have a whoopee cushion on hand or are skilled at the hand-in-the-armpit trick, this one is easy to do the good old-fashioned way. There are ways to still lightly celebrate the day remotely, though, that can prove to be an excuse to connect with a family member or friend while social distancing at home. Place them somewhere normal, like on a desk or on the floor. Then start placing more pennies, and get weirder. And of course, pretend that you have no idea what's happening.

Remove the label from a tube of anchovy paste, then replaced it with a toothpaste label. Places the tube in the unsuspecting victim’s bathroom so that they get a major surprise the next time they want to brush their teeth. Imagine expecting minty fresh breath only to be met with the fishy, salty taste of anchovy? At that point, you might as well have pizza for breakfast. Pretend that you’re going to the bathroom and call your kid asking for toilet paper.
Open up a salt shaker and tuck a piece of paper towel over the top, then fill it with a teaspoon or so of sugar and screw the lid back on. The next person who uses it will have a sweet surprise. For this one, cut a tiny piece of paper to fit undetected under your target’s computer mouse.
Inside, affix a small piece of plastic wrap — then re-screw the cap. When they squeeze that bottle and nothing comes out — over and over again — they’ll eventually figure out it’s an April Fool’s gag. If you have a fake plastic insect laying around at home, why don’t use it for a fun prank on your family of flat mates this April Fools’ Day. However, there’s still a need for harmless fun and something that can bring a smile to friends and families within your household. Tape the sign to the back of your friend, partner, or coworkers car.

There are few things more satisfying than pulling a fast one on your own kid, but elaborate prep work is sure to sap the fun out of any good April Fools' Day joke. We've found that the very best pranks are also the simplest. Then cover it with frosting, making it look like a cake. Then put it out in the office kitchen, or wherever people leave free food. Sit back as people try to cut themselves a slice.
